Why We Focus on Supporting High-Quality Instructional Materials
OpenSciEd’s high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) can improve outcomes for students and be a lever for change in science classrooms. We offer professional learning to support HQIM because:
The Framework for K-12 Science Education outlines ambitious instructional practices for science classrooms. Our workshops support teachers in making the pedagogical shifts called for by the Framework.
The existing demands on teacher time are great. Utilizing HQIM takes the curriculum development burden off teachers, giving them time to do what they do best: support student learning by adapting existing resources and building meaningful relationships with students.
District leaders face challenges when adopting curriculum materials. Our services meet districts where they are by partnering to understand the district context and providing guidance for local adoption and implementation of HQIM.
